Critical Structure Corruption error

The Critical Structure Corruption error is a Blue Screen of Death(BSOD) error, which is also known for its bug check error name of “0x00000109”. The main cause behind this error is, that the kernel has detected critical kernel code or data corruption.

This error often appears when you try to run emulation software within Windows. That is, you’re attempting to run another OS on top of Windows in a virtual environment. The kernel is an essential part of an OS, it manages the tasks which are being performed on the computer and its hardware- particularly the RAM and CPU time. The cause of Critical Structure Corruption is not very hard to locate, so there is no need to worry about it.

The Blue Screen of Death is a stop error or an error screen which is displayed on a Windows computer system after a system crash; when the OS of the computer reaches a condition where it can no longer operate safely. BSOD’s have been present in the Windows system since the Windows NT 3.1 and all the operating systems released afterward. BSoDs are mainly caused due to poorly written device drivers or malfunctioning hardware, such as faulty memory, power supply issues, overheating of components, or hardware running beyond its specification limits.

Like most fatal system errors, the Critical Structure Corruption error is caused due to the following things-

  • Drivers present in the computer are corrupted or incompatible.
  • Problems associated with the RAM of the computer.
  • Hardware related problems.
  • Third-party software problems.
  • Problems caused due to viruses.

To fix this issue you are required to be logged into Windows on the system facing this problem and try any of these solutions given below. If you are unable to log into Windows, power on and off your PC 3 times to perform a hard reboot and restart the system in safe mode and try the following solutions.

When the PC won’t start Windows normally twice in a row, it automatically presents you with a “Recovery” option that lets you to See advanced repair options. Windows can also be forced to start in Safe Mode from the System Configuration tool built into Windows which gives an option to enable “Safe boot”.

1. Try uninstalling some  programs:

There are some programs which are reported to be the cause of this error. If programs like  BlueStacks, Alcohol 120%, Daemon Tools, VirtualBox, MacDriver, Intel HAXM (Hardware Accelerated Execution Manager) are installed in PC, try upgrading them to the latest versions or just uninstall them from your PC.

Check if the problem is resolved after this step. Driver incompatibility issues are one the reasons which may ultimately lead to Blue Screen of Death. Uninstalling Third-party programs and all the recently added programs can easily resolve this problem.

2. Update all the drivers for the device’s motherboard and chipset:

In some cases, the Critical Structure Corruption can be caused due to defective device drivers. A Device driver or Hardware Driver is a collection of files that enables one or multiple hardware devices to successfully communicate with the computer’s Operating System. Without these drivers, the system wouldn’t be able to send and receive data correctly to hardware devices such as a printer or a webcam.

To resolve the error caused due to faulty device drivers, you need to make sure that the affected device has the right drivers and update all those drivers. There are softwares which can be used to update all the device drivers and add the ones which are not present in the PC. If you don’t have the patience or time for these updates, you can just install programs like Driver Easy or Driver Booster to do this task for you.

Programs like Driver Easy and Driver Booster will automatically recognize the system you are using and find the correct drivers for it. You don’t need to know exactly what hardwares and systems your computer is running, there is no risk of downloading the wrong drivers which is very common when doing it all by yourself.

Follow these steps to download and use Driver Booster 3:

Step 1: Download the latest version of Driver Booster.

Step 2: Install the program. Once the installation process is over, restart the computer.

Do not launch it until the computer has been successfully rebooted.

Step 3: Then open the software.

Step 4: Scan the PC for old drivers.

Step 5: Check the Device Drivers option and then select the drivers which you want to be updated.

Step 6: Click on the Update Now option to initialize the update process.

3. Try performing a clean boot:

A clean boot is something which is performed to start Windows by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. It is used to diagnose and troubleshoot advanced Windows problems. Clean boot helps to eliminate software conflicts that occurs when a program or an update is installed. Troubleshooting can help determine what conflict is causing the program by performing a clean boot.

Troubleshooting is a form of problem solving, applied to repair failed processes and it is needed to identify the symptoms.

i) Check the System Log in Event Viewer:

  • Press the Windows logo key and X at the same time, then click on Event Viewer.
  • On the left side of the pane in Event Viewer tab, click on Windows Logs and then in the drop down menu click on System. Check the section in the middle for any doubtful or suspicious event that happens just around the time when the Blue Screen of Death occurs. Check if any suspicious program is the cause of the problem you are facing.
